283 - A Fiftieth Anniversary Song

The inspiration for my writing comes from many places, but I was especially pleased when my friend, Laura mentioned that her brothers and their families were coming to town this week to help celebrate their parent’s fiftieth anniversary. A pleasant opportunity to honor two lovely, gentle people and to thank them for the gift of their daughter.

Just as they envisioned future, family, home,
Ardent dreams of young love have grown to reality;
Children to bless and teach and guide, grandchildren
Keen to share the legacy of laughter and affection.

Now as then, You fashion love’s wonder, Holy One,
Answering this pledge of years with Your favor;
Now as then, You arrange each day as a gift,
Chances to share Your abundance, to search, to offer,
Your hand guiding, their hands clasped together.

Make of this milestone a celebration of faithfulness,
Abiding love that sustains through life’s adversity and joy;
Come bless this day with three-fold blessings,
Knowledge of Your presence, of wholeness and peace.
