275 - Rosh Chodesh Elul

All too soon, the time of preparation finds me stuck, idling in procrastination, long-term projects still in the planning stages. But it is Elul. In twenty-nine days, the New Year will be here. Time to get ready. Again.

Two Hundred Seventy-Five

Rosh Chodesh Elul

Summer heat lulls me to complacency.
Elul’s approach warns me:
It is time to prepare, not for the cold,
But for warmth of unburdening and reconciliation.

Can my actions soften Your decree, My Redeemer?
I strip away the mundane, daring to sensitize myself;
Attune my soul and heart to righteousness,
Let me discover my higher self.

Questioning, examining, I contemplate my days,
Looking inward, outward, pushing away denial;
Bring me in safety to the foothills of truth’s mountain,
Center me on the blessing of Your vigilance.
