Beth and Oren’s baby arrived last Monday night, the twelfth day of the Omer, Yom Ha’Shaoh, a day of Remembrance of the Heroes and Martyrs. His family and loved ones will welcome him into the covenant of Israel this coming Wednesday on Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel Independence Day. Mazel tov!

Two Hundred Fifty-Eight

A Song of Welcome for Alexander Jacob

Arrange this new son’s days with wonder,
Let Torah and good deeds
Enfold his heart, Holy One.
Extend his hands in friendship,
Aware of the constancy of Your kindness;
Nurture him with strength and curiosity,
Discovering the bounty of Your world.
Even as You blessed his ancestors,
Rest Your blessings on his head.

Joy will be his portion, Holy One:
Another generation to praise You;
Carry him gently in loving arms.
On this day of the Land’s independence,
Bless him, bless our people, with shalom.
