228 - A Song of Welcome

Cantor Gershon Silins and Executive Director Bekki Harris Kaplan are the newest members of the Beth Emet family. They joined us this summer, but have yet to be officially welcomed. One of my jobs, as Beth Emet’s psalmist, is to contribute some words to mark this event in the life cycle of the congregation. This new psalm will be read at Shabbat services next week.

A Song of Welcome

“Let all who are employed with the congregation act with them for Heaven’s sake…” Pirket Avot 2:3

You, Holy One, are the Orchestrator of my days,
Enlisting my skills to balance against need;
Place Your trust in me as I labor,
Bless my offerings to this community.

Arrange my transition and my learning,
Acquaint me with cherished customs;
Unfold rich history as my beginning place,
Platform for my own gifts and strengths.

May I embrace this congregation as I am welcomed,
My open heart a covenant for the future;
Safeguard my work in holiness,
Let every action reflect Your charge.
