213 - Almost Spring

I keep forgetting to pull down the shade on the bedroom window that faces east. The rising sun summons me from sleep and, a bit surprised at the early hour, I try to resist pulling a pillow over my head. The sunlight is energizing, a blessing spurring me to action. It is almost spring, time to be grateful for having reached another season.

Two Hundred Thirteen

Almost Spring

The shift of sunlight wakes me earlier.
Maker of seasons, You renew me
Even as You renew the earth,
You warm me with hope of growth.

I cannot linger in the past,
As the shadowed snow that will not melt;
This time of chilled inertia is a memory
That will fade as I turn to the light.

Like a bird beginning his spring song,
Staking out territory for new life,
So will I lift my head, envisioning strength,
A future sustained by Your care.
