201 - Rosh Hashanah

I’ve always been awed by the story of the Akedah, the binding of Isaac. How can we hope to emulate Abraham’s faith as he heeded God’s direction to sacrifice his son? I think sometimes faith is a day-to-day decision. There are challenges and choices every day. We pray for a peek at the completed puzzle, but we can only hold one or two small pieces. We pray for the strength to be present to answer God’s call.

Two Hundred One

Rosh Hashanah

When You call me before the Gate,
I will say: “Here I am.”
Though I falter and struggle,
Yet will I come to stand before You.

This is Your day of remembrance,
When all that has been
Is called to scrutiny;
Let me have a place in Your plan.

This is Your day of mercy,
When all the actions of my days
Are arrayed for You to ponder;
Let me have a place in Life.

I wait before the year’s new Gate,
Seeking Your kind decision;
Let me say: “Here I am”
As You beckon me through.
