109 - 14 Adar I, After Heart Studies

Five years ago, in 1995, as in 2000, there was an extra Adar. Seven years after surgery to remove part of a lung, 17 years after cancer diagnosis and the intervening years of treatment with chemotherapy and radiation, I was again in the hospital. This time it was to investigate cardiac irregularities. One of the better known after effects of certain cancer medications is heart damage. I had received radiation to my chest twice. So the doctors were investigating my chest pain and shortness of breath.

The night after my cardiac catheterization, I looked out the hospital window at the full moon. Now as always, God was there, sending a message through the glowing night sphere of creation.

One Hundred Nine

14 Adar I
After Heart Studies

Caught, incarcerated,
Pressure-dressed and peering through bars,
Adar’s extra moon catches me, exposes me,
Draws me back to You.

Here, O Eternal Healer, the red ribbon of my faith
Is tested, tied to technologies’ magic.
Here, Beloved One, I place my trust
In the keen minds of Your creations.

And the purposeless moon, the place-holding moon,
Is called to my revelation:
To draw me on toward healing,
To draw me on.
