78 - A Song for Renewal

Eating the last of the hamentashen, we look ahead a month, from the full moon of Adar to the full moon of Nisan. Years ago, my now grown daughter’s synagogue nursery school focused on the holidays and she knew, simply, that Purim turned into Pesach. It’s time to get ready.

A Song for Renewal

As Purim turns into Pesach,
You bid us begin, Eternal One;
You coax us to peel away winter layers
That have kept us muffled from You.

In the gray and lengthening days of early spring,
Call us to turn to You.

As Purim turns into Pesach,
We fling open windows and fill our souls
With fresher air and warming winds.
Move us to a new beginning.

Call us to You in the changeable, fragile days
That we might be refreshed.

You give us this constant gift of renewal,
Even as You create the world anew each week.
We open our coats and inhale deeply,
As we move toward our season of freedom.

As _Purim _turns into Pesach,
We warm ourselves again beneath Your hand,
Cleansing our hearts of debris and denial,
Turning in joy to the Eternal God.
