58 - A Song for Childbirth

We spent a pleasant and comfortable 4th of July at Susan and Scott’s, Reid’s brother and his wife. And met business associate Mike with wife, Jen and their two young sons. Jen’s expecting her third child in few months. Her third child - she doesn’t know the baby’s gender. It seems almost matter-of-course lately for expectant parents to know who they’re expecting. Jen agreed with me that the moment of revelation is too precious to be usurped by technology.

A Song for Childbirth

I will fasten my heart to the Eternal;
My footsteps will not falter.

In the morning of this new beginning,
You coax me along the gentle slope,
Pausing as I tend my burgeoning flowers,
Soothing my worries.

I will fasten my heart to the Eternal;
My path will be straight.

You swirl around me,
Casting waves of comfort,
Calling me upward, onward,
To move through this day of transformation.

I will fasten my heart to the Eternal;
My climb will be steady.

You hold me as I open my soul,
Straining, singing this melody of life,
Feeling You near as I enter a new realm,
Hearing a lusty cry that echoes my delight.

I will fasten my heart to the Eternal.
I will praise God’s name.

To survive alone,
You draw me to You, Holy One,
Remembering joys of unshaded brightness,
Hatless, uncovered, unscathed.
