53 - Rainbow Hallel for Sukkot
Sukkot is one of the three Pilgrimage Festivals. Our Pilgrimage these days must be spiritual. But we can still enjoy the serenity of sitting in a Sukkah - a fragile structure that evokes the booths built by the ancient Israelites so they could be close to their fields as they brought in the harvest.
Fifty-Three
Rainbow Hallel for Sukkot
Hallelujah!
Praise the Creator!
Red crisp apples of autumn,
Shiny and stemmed,
Heaped to fill a basket;
God has made them.
Hallelujah!
Praise the Creator!
Orange gourds swinging by crooked necks,
Graceful as swans,
Inedible and inscrutable;
God has made them.
Hallelujah!
Praise the Creator!
Yellow swirl of leaves,
Yellow fragrant etrog,
Yellow corn;
God has made them.
Hallelujah!
Praise the Creator!
Green boughs above our head
Hiding and revealing
Blue and cool skies;
God has made them.
Hallelujah!
Praise the Creator!
Indigo twilight wraps around us;
Gathered in this fragile structure,
Purple wine and chewy bread;
God has made them.
Colored paper chains,
Rainbows of color,
The promise of Covenant;
God has made us all.
Hallelujah!
